Competition to Collaboration
Study Space started as a project from the first hackathon at UC Davis, HackDavis. Study Space is an Android and iPhone app aimed at helping students find better places to study.
Our goal is to change the culture of studying from competition to collaboration. Our research found that collaboration not only helps students learn better, it prepares students for work environments.
The Study Space branding is inspired by clean design and motivational quotes. The minimalistic design of Study Space conveys the honesty and transparency of the platform.
The logo combines iconography from studying and location (i.e. pens and drop pins). The rounded edges and lowercase font makes the logo come across as friendly and motivating. The white space of the logo represents a student as the app is centered around peer collaboration.
Bright green is the accent color for the brand. Study Space Green is fresh and inviting. It symbolizes growth, personal development and new starts.
The voice of Study Space is motivating and honest. The straightforward tone conveys transparency created through increased collaboration. The simple type is sometimes supplemented with emojis or pencil marks.
Marketing of the app is specifically geared towards college campuses. Partnering with student organizations is one way Study Space targets its key demographic.
Other ways Study Space markets itself is through becoming a resource on social media. From creating study playlists to providing exclusive interviews with professors, Study Space helps students achieve.
Quarter sheets are more effective than full flyers because they can easily be handed out or put in card holders.
Bus Stop Ads
Advertising on bus stops not only reaches bus riders but also work as billboards for bikers and drivers.
Study Space uses merch like paper coffee cups, shirts and stickers as free advertising for the app.
